The Pin Factory (Wistaria Cottage)
The pin factory was a cottage industry of domestic workers, believed to have been located in the cellar of Wistaria Cottage on High Street. It was run by Edward Lever and his nephew William, who specialised in high quality pins for local supply only.
This picture shows a selection of pins found under/between the floorboards of Wistaria Cottage, and has been provided by Pauline Jones, a one time resident who now lives in a house which she and her husband built in the back garden.
This shows the factory where the pins were produced, situated behind the cottage. The wire from which the pins were made was supplied in large rolls.
